Judge Featured in Breaking the Silence Attacks Sacks
in LA Newspaper
November 1, 2005
Sol Gothard, a retired judge who was featured in PBS's Breaking the Silence:
Children's Stories, devoted a 1,500 word piece to attacking columnist Glenn
Sacks and the campaign against the film in two California newspapers today. The
piece, "Critics of Child Abuse Film Miss the
Point in Rush to Defend Fathers" (Los Angeles Daily Journal,
San Francisco Daily Journal, 11/1/05), was co-authored with Paul J. Fink and
Tasha Amador of the Family Court Reform Coalition.
The authors criticize "Sacks' near-total focus on the portrayal of fathers in
the film, and what he views as the questionable behavior of mothers in custody
disputes" and says "Sacks' public statements...reflect a multitude of
accusations and concentrated diatribe against mothers and his concerns regarding
the negative effects of "draconian" domestic violence policies on fathers in the
documentary." The writers assert that false allegations of sexual abuse in
divorce are rare, and that batterers and child molesters frequently win custody
of children.
