Adoption Guru Attacks Glenn
Fathers' rights in adoption
was the subject of one of my most controversial columns--my
co-authored piece
Dads Deserve to Know (Washington Times, 8/22/02).
The day after the column appeared, my co-author and I were attacked
by one of the world's leading figures on adoption, the late
William L. Pierce, then President of the U.S.A. Committee of
the International Association of Voluntary Adoption Agencies
& NGOs.
Pierce's comments give a pretty
good idea of the woman good/man bad mentality of these agencies.
According to Pierce, in defending fathers' right to raise their
own children we were in fact advocating for "disappearing hit-and-run
lovers" who father children in "playboy sprees." Worst of all,
we were "concerned about equal rights for men, as if men and
women were similarly situated in a pregnancy."
Being "concerned about equal
rights for men"--I plead guilty.
The Florida law that we defended as a lesser of evils solution
was attacked by feminists and adoption groups, and was later
repealed by the Florida legislature--a fine example of how low
fathers' concerns rank with politicians.
Glenn Quoted in Washington Times on Working Fathers,
Anti-Father Double Standards
I was quoted on working fathers and anti-father double standards
in the Washington Times article
Custody's high stakes (7/10/05). Feminist law professor
Naomi Cahn
gave the standard feminist justification for anti-father family
court discrimination--that because fathers usually are not their
children's primary caregivers, the pro-mother bias represents
"equality." In the article I noted:
"'There's a lot of prejudice against dads who aren't
the primary breadwinner...[Men] feel like they're damned if
they do and damned if they don't' stay home with the children."
As I explained on
Sunday's
show, men's desirability as mates is determined in part
by their earning capacity and, once married, men are expected
by their wives to be their families' primary breadwinners. According
to the International Labor Organization, the average American
father works a 51 hour work week. Yet, when fathers walk into
family court, the fact that they sacrificed to provide for their
families is held against them because they weren't their kids'
primary caregivers. Whatever a man does he's wrong.

Father
Fights Adoption Agency for
Right to Raise His Son
"Mark Huddleston is the biological father of a 16-month-old
child he says he wants to raise. But a judge has ruled the child
should remain with its adoptive parents, who have had custody
since the infant was three days old. Huddleston claims he didn't
know the baby existed until two months after its birth...the
state said the private adoption agency hadn't properly notified
Huddleston and that he should have an opportunity to raise the
child.
"'This child is my blood,' said Huddleston, a father of two
grown children. 'I couldn't live with myself knowing there's
a child of mine I have no relationship with. They don't understand
that.'" (Valencia County News Bulletin, 6/15/05)
Despite doing everything possible to be a father to his son,
Huddleston's baby boy was given away by a vindictive mother
working hand in glove with a predatory adoption agency. Sixteen
months and $70,000 in legal fees later, Huddleston has no rights
to his own son.
Huddleston, his attorney P.J. Hartman,
and Mike McCormick, Executive Director of the
American Coalition for Fathers
and Children, will join Glenn on
